Why are Urban environments such a critical issue?<\/strong><\/p>\n
The world\u2019s population continues to grow, our planet is increasingly urbanizing, we need to redefine humanities relationship between cities and nature.\u00a0 If we are going to make a urbanized livable planet we need to expand our Permaculture designing vision into cities and suburbs. We need to be inclusive in our designs and empower nature to help us make cities and the suburb’s resilient, cleaner, healthier and ultimately flourishing,\u00a0 so both nature and people can not just survive but thrive, and\u00a0 we need to work closely in partnership with the people and organizations who have been focusing on cities for a long time by bringing our ideas and knowledge.
\nSince being founded 40 years ago, Permaculture has built a strong track record of helping solve major environmental challenges as desertification on the Loses Plateau<\/a> in China. We need to mobilize similar solutions in our urban areas, using similar Permaculture principals and technology.\u00a0 Permaculture has developed world-leading expertise in practical science-based outcomes, we are now working hard on inclusive policy and are working more in multi-stakeholder approaches to urban living.\u00a0 As Permaculturists we have always focused on collaboration with others. We can now bring these same skills to our work within cities, urban areas and suburbs and to intensifying food growing areas in and around cities.
\nFrom our experience we know nature can help cities solve some major environmental, financial, social and “quality of life” challenges. Nature-based solutions play a major role in providing clean drinking water, clean air, healthy robust soils, and lower pollution impacts from and on cities. Working with schools and institutions, we connect new, younger and more diverse people with nature ensuring the next generation of environmental stewards and supporters are with us on this journey of harmony with nature and Permaculture principal discovery.<\/p>\n
The more teaching and projects about Urban Permaculture and nature we do in and around cities, the more we share and expose to both older and young urban dwellers, then the more we show how we can “include and empower natural solutions to urban problems\u00a0 by design”\u00a0 so cities, urban areas and humanity can benefit from its regenerative, sustainable nature.
